Doctors have decided to warn patients using Viagra pills to treat erectile dysfunction problems and other related conditions that there is a risk to become deaf. The little blue pills are very popular in the 21 century, but due to excessive use there are some dangerous side-effects which should be taken into consideration.
Reports performed in Europe, Australia and the US by researchers from hospitals located in Charing Cross, Stoke Mandeville and Royal Marsden have revealed that "Viagra deafness" is a possible side-effect. There have been registered 47 cases which suspected sensorineural hearing loss in one or both ears after taking the pills for erectile dysfunction.
The average age of the subjects was 57 years old even if there were also two exceptions of 37 years old. There is not yet known how much this situation lasts but usually this type of damage is permanent.
As a result of this study, the FDA decided to advise Viagra, Cialis and Levitra users to stop using the pills once such symptoms are noticed. In addition, the user should immediately contact the doctor and take action. The researchers who conducted this study in UK are not yet certain regarding the mechanism through which Viagra pills might lead to deafness but it might be linked to the chain of chemical reactions related to the knock-on effects in the ear.
The full report related to the Viagra deafness risks has been included in the The Laryngoscope journal. Dr Afroze Shah Khan from the Ear, Nose and Throat department of the Charing Cross Hospital declared that medical practitioners should be more careful when prescribing these drugs and to maintain close contact with patients in case of problems.
This research was mainly focused on the Viagra pills, but it is not yet known whether these effects are still valid in the case of other forms of ED Viagra products such as: liquid Viagra or other related forms. The product launched by Pfizer Corp is the most successful current solution but it can also lead to more dangerous conditions if not administered accurately.... More.
